The three stories, like a day at the beach, are an enjoyable, diverting read filled with fun, sun and the good things in life. Addison Albright’s “Nevermore” is an insightful and tender story of a man who longs for something more, then with Ava Matthew’s “Chasing Sand” a chance encounter just may lead to long-term consequences, and finally with Zoe Nichols' “Surf’s Up” an older, former surfer teaches a sassy surfer kid an important, impactful lesson.

Nevermore by Addison Albright - Ted leads a double life. By day he’s a divorced father of two young children and a middle-school teacher. He has a fulfilling life, but he’s still in the closet, afraid to step out and risk his safe, comfortable existence. By night, when the mood and courage strikes him, under the persona of Raven he drives a safe distance from his hometown to a club, hoping to hookup with the sexy, mysterious Caesar. Then a chance encounter at the beach may finally give Ted the encouraging push he needs to finally leave the darkness of his closeted life behind. And a chance for his heart's desire.

This is a perfect example of not what is said, but how it is said. The story’s short, just eight pages, and even with the sex scene, the author allows us to know Ted through his very well-done characterization, layering in important insights that skillfully flesh out his character. And the author doesn’t resort to a forced closing scene, as I had feared, yet still manages to nicely wrap the story up. “Nevermore” is a quick read, but satisfying and heartfelt with deeper significance and hope for something more.

“Nevermore” by Addison Albright is a sweetly romantic story about finding the courage to be true to oneself. Ted puts on his Raven persona when he goes to the club, shedding all the cares of his real life. When Raven reunites with his regular partner Caesar, the sex is highly erotic but they are stuck at the casual hookup stage. Although they obviously have developed strong feelings for one another, Ted maintains a tight hold on his anonymity and refuses to open up to Caesar. When the men unexpectedly meet at the beach, Caesar sets out to prove that he is more than willing to trade Raven for Ted. I greatly enjoyed the contrast between Ted and Raven, and the power and freedom Ted is able to adopt in this role. Albright is brilliant at crafting short, lighthearted stories and this is an excellent example not to be missed!

This anthology contains three stories with a single theme - a day at the beach, and all of the stories were well worth the time invested. Some were better than others but overall there were no lows in this book, only high points.

Nevermore by Addison Albright

Rating: 4.25 stars out of 5

Ted is a school teacher and single parent of two little girls and consequently his lifestyle is very conservative. His only adult entertainment is on the weekends when he can assume his other persona of Raven, who is very different from Ted and he makes sure that none of the people he meets at the night club he frequents have any idea who he is. He wishes that he could share more with the one man who makes his body sing - Caesar - but regrettably that's not possible and regardless how much he likes Caesar he has to protect his identity. The sex between them is exceptional - passionate and very sensual, and it was apparent that they had feelings for each other despite Ted's reservations about Caesar getting to know him better. Caesar wants to meet Ted outside of the club scene but can't win his trust, until one fateful day at the beach when Ted is with his two little girls and who should show up with his own daughter - Caesar.

I liked Nevermore best of the three terrific stories in the book. For a short story the author did a great job on the characterizations and Ted/Raven was three dimensional and incredibly appealing as Addison Albright gave us a sense of his two lives and the challenges he faced as a single father who also happened to be gay and in the closet. Caesar, on the other hand, was 'out', had been for sometime and was well adjusted in his life - just the kind of lover that Ted/Raven needed. This was a very enjoyable story and on its own was worth the price of the book.

“Nevermore” by Addison Albright

When Ted Rhoads comes face to face with Caesar Edwards he’s not sure what to do. Ted and Caesar are occasional lovers, only not in the real world. When clubbing, Ted goes by the name “Raven.”  Without his disguise will Ted choose to come out or will he stay in the closet?

“Nevermore” is a sweet and hot story. Caeser and Ted are tender guys who have very hot sex and in the end have a chance at a very solid future together.  Nevermore” has hot sex, meaningful conversations and life changing decisions. It’s short in words, but big in story.

A Day at the Beach has sun, fun, blue skies, and a few hot men getting it on! Surprise meetings, new lovers, and secret trysts make it a very hot, sexy, and romantic anthology.
